Some hands are just too good.
Rebid your first suit or a quiet 1NT with a hand this good, and you undersell it. Opener's reverse promises 17 or more HCP and is forcing for one round, so responder cannot pass it.
Reverses, with Ingberman.
Partner opens, you respond, and then partner's rebid looks stronger than a simple return to the first suit. That is when reverses come in. Learn the 17 point test that tells you when the extra strength is really there, and Ingberman, responder's artificial brake for the hands that are not quite strong enough to drive to game.
$25 for both sessions. Included for VIP members.
Do You Have the Points to Reverse?
We will work through both sides of the auction: what a reverse promises, and how responder answers it.
Rebid your first suit or a quiet 1NT with a hand this good, and you undersell it. Opener's reverse promises 17 or more HCP and is forcing for one round, so responder cannot pass it.
Before bidding a new suit at the two level that outranks your first, count your HCP. The house standard for a reverse is 17 or more HCP. Anything less, and you will learn what to bid instead.
Facing a reverse with 6 to 8 HCP, responder bids Ingberman 2NT, an artificial call that asks opener to slow down.
With 9 or more HCP, responder skips the brake and bids a suit at the three level directly, forcing to game.
You opened 1♦. Partner responded 1♠. Now look at your hand.
Choose a rebid, then see how responder answers.
