Now what?

Every club player knows the feeling from both sides of the table.

You pick up six spades and eight points, and you know there is a bid for this hand, but you are not quite sure you are allowed to make it. So you pass, and the opponents have a comfortable auction to a comfortable game.

Or the opponents open a weak two on you, and suddenly your beautiful 17-count has nowhere to go. You double, partner bids your shortest suit. You bid your suit, partner passes with the wrong hand. The preempt worked exactly as designed.

Weak two bids are the bid most club players are underusing and misdefending at the same time, and the one that pays back the fastest. Two hours fixes both.

What you will learn

Three skills, one afternoon

🃏 Card 1: Make the Bid

Master the four-part checklist for opening a weak two: a six-card suit, 5–10 high-card points, strong suit quality, and no side four-card major. Learn how your seat and vulnerability affect the decision, plus how far you can safely push the auction.

🎯 Card 2: Find the Game

A preempt isn’t the end of the auction. It’s just the beginning. Use Ogust, the 2NT asking bid, to uncover opener’s strength and suit quality. Learn which bids are forcing, when to choose 3NT or four of a major, and how to raise preemptively to shut out the opponents.

🏆 Card 3: Bid the Slam

Yes, you can reach a slam after a weak-two opening. Follow the full auction from the asking bid through Roman Keycard Blackwood 1430. Together, we’ll bid a hand all the way to a small slam, step by step.

🛡️ Card 4: Beat Their Preempt

Build a complete defense against weak-two openings. Learn the takeout double and partner’s responses, the 2NT overcall, natural suit overcalls, when to gamble on 3NT, and how to adjust in the balancing seat. You’ll also learn Leaping Michaels for strong two-suited hands.

Who is this for

Beginner to advanced, and that is on purpose

Weak twos are one of the few topics where a brand new player and a life master can sit in the same room and both leave with something. The beginner learns a bid that wins tricks and rattles opponents from day one. The advanced player finally nails down the agreements that have been costing the partnership slams and doubled partscores for years.

New to weak twos

You will leave knowing exactly when to open one, what partner's bids mean, and why nobody should be afraid of this bid. No prior convention knowledge assumed.

Playing them already

You will tighten the discipline, learn Ogust properly, and stop guessing between 3NT and four of a major.

Playing them well

Slam auctions opposite a preempt, Leaping Michaels, seat and vulnerability judgment, and the full agreements checklist to settle with your partner.

Play of the Hand

Then We Sat Down and Played Them

In this replay, we take the deals straight from the Weak Two Bids lesson and play them at the table. Every hand is built around a weak two auction: some where you open one, some where the opponents do, and some where the right answer is the bid nobody at the table found.

Tracey watches the play and talks through each decision as it happens. It’s not another lecture. It’s a seat at the table, with a champion looking over your shoulder.

This replay is included with your ticket.

Taught by Tracey Bauer

Two-time World Bridge Federation Women's Spring Festival Champion, 2020 and 2022. Lifetime Platinum Member with over 200 platinum points.

Tracey learned bridge in her 30s, which is exactly why she teaches it the way she does: no jargon walls, no club politics, no assumption that you already know the thing nobody ever explained.

She plays these auctions at the international level. She teaches them like a friend who wants you to win on Tuesday night.

FAQs:

Q: I have never opened a weak two in my life. Am I going to be lost?

A: No. We build the bid from zero in the first half hour, and the workbook walks with you. Every workshop we run has beginners in it, and they leave with the same checklist everyone else does.

Q: I already play weak twos. Is this too basic for me?

A: The second half is where you will live. Ogust follow-ups, the slam auction, and the full defense including Leaping Michaels are advanced material, and most partnerships have never written any of it down.

Q: Do I need a partner to attend?

A: No. Come alone. Everything you learn is written as an agreement you can hand to any partner afterward.

Q: What if I can't make one of the sessions live?

A: Both are recorded, and both replays land in your inbox within 24 hours. You keep them.

Q: What is Play of the Hand?

A: A live playing session, not a lecture. We deal hands built around the auctions from the lesson and play them with Tracey watching and commenting. It is where the lesson stops being theory.

Q: Is this ACBL Standard or 2/1?

A: Weak twos work identically in both systems. Nothing in this workshop depends on which one you play.

Q: What do I need to have ready?

A: A device with Zoom, something to write with, and your questions. The workbook arrives by email before we start.
